What parents and students say

Here's how it works.
Three steps, every week.
One good lesson doesn't move a grade. The loop does. Their feedback sets what the next lesson covers, and it goes again.

The live lesson.
One hour, live, 1-to-1 or in a small group, on the single skill their last paper says is costing them marks. They draw on the board, talk through their reasoning, and get corrected on the spot.

The assignment.
A real past-paper question, or a full paper, sent with the deadline and the exact points to fix from their last piece. Timed sittings run on a clock that starts when they do.

Examiner feedback.
Not their tutor. An independent examiner marks it to the real scheme, annotating the script line by line, then sends the marks and the comments back.
A real student's assignments, plotted.
Akshay: B to A*, then Cambridge.
Cambridge
Each point is a real past-paper question marked by an examiner. The line is what weekly marked writing looks like over one year. He finished on an A* and took up a place at Cambridge.
Five stars, over and over.

What happens in the trial.
Sam teaches it himself. Your child works through a real exam question with him, and you both leave knowing the specific thing costing them marks.
- Students and parents together works best, and a laptop beats a phone.
- Have their most recent marked essay or mock to hand if you can, since that is the fastest way to see where the marks are going.
- If a past paper essay every week is not right for your child, we will tell you in the trial.
Tutors teach. Examiners mark.
The person who marks the work is never the person who taught the lesson. That is the whole point.

Sam Reynolds
Cambridge Economics graduate and full-time tutor. Teaches every trial lesson himself.

Both prices, up front.
The small-group programme
Booked by the term, and you only pay for the weeks left. Every week your child gets all three:
- A live small-group lesson with Sam. Maximum five, the same five all term.
- A live Q&A hour with Sam. Anything on the spec, essay technique, or the economics in the news.
- A real past-paper assignment, marked by an examiner. Against the board's own scheme, back before the next lesson.
Join part-way through a term and you pay for the weeks that are left, not the whole term. Year 12 summer runs to July, so that term is 12 weeks.
One-to-one
- Work through essays line by line with Sam for completely personalised feedback.
All sessions online over Zoom. Edexcel, AQA, Eduqas and OCR. The First-Three Promise applies to both: three sessions in, not right for you, every penny back.
Three-session money-back promise.
The First-Three Promise
You can try 3 sessions risk free. If it's not for you, we'll refund every penny. Worst case scenario, you get 3 hours tuition and 3 marked essays for free.
Common questions.
Which exam boards do you cover?
AQA, Edexcel (A and IAL), Eduqas and OCR.
How quickly do we receive feedback and in what format?
Essays and papers completed for homework are externally marked by an examiner and typically returned within 72 hours. Students and parents receive an annotated PDF and feedback summary via email.
My child is already predicted a top grade. How can tuition help them?
Predicted grades are optimistic by design. UCAS's own analysis, which now runs to 2024, shows the share of applicants finishing within one grade of their prediction has fallen steadily since 2014. Final grades are typically lower, as teachers predict optimistically to avoid disadvantaging their students in the application process. So even if school are predicting top grades, it's sensible to take predictions with caution. Nonetheless, even the best students can benefit from tuition.
What kind of progress can we expect?
Students typically improve between 1 and 3% on assignment scores per session, primarily based on past paper questions. A bump of 10% equates roughly to one grade boundary. As a result, an improvement around 1-2 grades is typical per 10 lessons, assuming assignments are completed.
